What is 3MT?
In the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) format, participants have precisely three minutes to convey the essence of their research to a non-specialist audience. The goal is to condense complex ideas into a short timeframe and to make your work accessible and interesting to listeners who may not be familiar with your field.
Rules
In addition to the strict 3-minute time limit, participants are only permitted to use a single static presentation slide; slide transitions and animations are not allowed. No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted. No props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted. Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps, or songs).
Tips
Communicating academic work to a wider audience is challenging so try using a framework such as the W.I.S.E. framework. And, as with any form of public speaking, practicing is key so make the most of our free VR Practice Stages.
